I do not worry about what other actors are doing: Poorva Gokhale

Poorva Gokhale who debuted on the small screen with a supporting role in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, followed it up with a lead role in Kkoi Dil Mein Hai and also went on to gain immense popularity as a Marathi television actress. Currently, she is seen in the show Tujhse Hai Raabta, that revolves around the emotional bond that a step-mother shares with her daughter. Poorva says she is “aware of the challenges of being part of a show that’s removed from the conventional saas-bahu genre”, she also feels that it is “imperative for an actor to choose roles that offer something more to the audience than adhering to the rules of the TRP game.” Today, barring a few Hindi TV shows, there is talk about TV content being regressive. Do you think the TV industry is ready for a shift, where urban viewers can enjoy watching some different kinds of stories?

Content on TV is going through a transformation. When we started Tujhse Hai Raabta, a lot of people told us, “Mother-daughter ki story kaun dekhega? Iss mein love story toh honi hi chahiye, because love stories always work”. And we included a love track in the show. Now we get messages from the audience saying that they want to see more of the mother-daughter story. So, that’s how far the audience has come! There’s demand for content that’s different.
