I am happy to do something hatke in my debut Gujarati film: Sushant Singh
Best remembered for his roles in films like The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Jungle and Matrubhhomi and in TV shows like Virruddh, Gulaal, actor Sushant Singh will soon make his Dhollywood debut with Cheelzadap. He says, “I couldn’t say ‘no’ yet I am happy to do something hatke in my first Gujarati film.” Sushant, who was in Ahmedabad recently to promote the film, was at his candid best when we caught up with him for an interview. In a free-wheeling chat the affable actor talked about working in regional films, the need for good content in television shows and more.
After doing other regional films (Punjabi, Telugu and Kannada), you are all set to make your debut in Gujarati films. Did the fact that the local film industry is creating good content make you say yes?
I have known Dharmessh Mehta, the director of the film for a long time now and trust his vision. We’ve worked together in the crime series, Savdhaan India. When Dharmessh came to me with this film, I couldn’t say no. But that was not the only reason for me to do this film. The script subject is extremely powerful. I have heard that some good films are being made in Gujarati and I wanted to be part of this industry.
When you do regional films, does not knowing the language become a barrier in expressing yourself as an actor?
It does! Initially I stayed away from regional films for the same reason. As an actor if I am not comfortable with the language, it becomes challenging as one can’t improvise either!
